Just minutes from downtown Jackson, High Falls State Park sits on the Towaliga River and delivers one of the most spectacular natural attractions in all of Middle Georgia: a dramatic waterfall cascading over ancient granite ledges into the river below. It's the kind of sight that makes you glad you live (or visit) in Butts County.
The Falls
The centerpiece of the park is, unsurprisingly, High Falls itself. A well-maintained trail system runs along both sides of the river gorge, giving visitors multiple vantage points of the falls. The walk is relatively easy and accessible to most fitness levels, though some sections near the water can be slippery โ wear appropriate footwear.
More Than Just the Falls
The park is larger than most visitors expect. Beyond the waterfall trails, you'll find camping facilities with RV hookups and tent sites, a disc golf course, picnic shelters, and a seasonal swimming pool. Fishing in the Towaliga River and reservoir is popular for bass and catfish. The park also features interpretive signage about the area's antebellum history โ this was once the site of a thriving industrial town before Sherman's march.
Camping at High Falls
The campground has both pull-through RV sites with water and electric hookups and tent camping areas. The facilities are well maintained and the park is quieter than larger state parks, making it a great choice for a peaceful overnight stay.
Pro Tips
Visit on a weekday morning for the best experience โ weekends, especially in summer, can get crowded at the falls overlooks. A Georgia ParkPass from Indian Springs State Park is valid here the same day at no extra charge. The falls are most dramatic after significant rain when the Towaliga is running high.
